On my recent trip overseas, I found myself growing frustrated with a few of my fellow models, especially with the younger ones, because there were moments where I was convinced I was back in high school. Never mind the excessive partying and questionable morals. What drove me up the wall were their egos.

An inflated ego is incredibly common with new faces or models who’ve only recently started to find success in the industry. To be fair, those first weeks or months can be a very exciting time, but excitement and ego are worlds apart. Whether it comes from booking high-profile editorials, campaigns, or making buckets of money from shooting catalogues, they start to think they’ve “made it.”

Should I shoot nudity?

At a certain time in a model's career, he or she will be faced with the decision to be shot nude. Whether it be for a job, or to test with a certain photographer, it's a decision some models may struggle to make - understandably so. Shooting nude, especially for the first time, isn't exactly easy. As a model, you're already vulnerable and subject to criticism. When you shoot even partial nudity, your emotional vulnerability may be heightened.

First Trip Blues

With August coming to a close, many models will be going back home after their first trip abroad. For most models, their first trip holds a very special place in their heart. It's a time of firsts: first castings, first jobs, travelling on a plane, and being independent. Once that 2-3 month contract ends, models are either on their way back home or off to another market. For those lucky enough to have created solid friendships and wonderful memories, it's going to feel bitter sweet.
