We love this sweet little article about Ontarian model Jessica Brown from Durhamregion.com. It's always great to have the support of your hometown!
One Pickering resident will be walking the runways this summer after a trip to Great Wolf Lodge turned into more than she bargained for.
While on a family vacation to the water park resort last year Jessica Brown, 16, was discovered by a Toronto modeling agency.
“I just went there with my family, so it was a bit of a surprise when I was approached,” she said.
“I had been told a few times that I could maybe model, but I grew up playing sports so it wasn’t really something I had thought about.”
That all changed after she was spotted by Carole Reynolds, director of Sutherland Models Agency.
“I thought she was absolutely beautiful, the type of model who could shoot the biggest campaigns in the world,” Ms. Reynolds said of her first impression, which proved to be prescient.
Jessica is now busy jetting to the fashion capitals of the world, and in the last year has walked for some of fashion’s biggest names, including Prada, Dior, Hugo Boss, Givenchy, Valentino and Miu Miu.
“I went from not doing anything by myself to traveling everywhere all alone,” Jessica said of the transition.
“At first I was really nervous, but the first time I went to Milan and Paris my Mom came with me so that helped put me at ease. Now I love it, a few weeks ago I went to Shanghai to walk Hugo Boss, I never thought I would be able to visit China, especially at 16. Just to be there and explore and see the culture was amazing.”
Coming back from Paris Couture Week and settling back into life as a regular high school student can be tough, but the Pine Ridge Secondary School student credits great friends with keeping her down to earth.
“It’s hard to go from the runway to coming back to school, but my friends are always really excited and want to know what’s happening and where I’m going next, so that makes it fun.”
