Last season, Prada cast Malaika Firth in its campaign and got an overwhelming response from consumers and media all over the world. That campaign is now famous for being the first Prada campaign to feature a non-white model since 1994.
Although an excellent PR move on Prada's part, Cindy Bruna is by no means just a token model of colour. The 19-year-old French woman was one of the top newcomers at the Spring shows this fall. She began the season with a Calvin Klein exclusive in New York, and then went on to crush Paris - see her bookings for McQueen, Givenchy, Gaultier, and Balmain. She followed that up with a cover of Vogue Italia. To top it off, she had two looks at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
From runway, to a cover, to the most coveted commercial booking and now a major campaign, Cindy's had a pretty amazing six months. Clearly, there's something to be said for debuting after the age of 18.
